Condensing Gas Boilers are high efficiency boilers that utilize the energy stored in exhaust gas.
In a conventional boiler, 10% of the combustion power is emitted to the environment through the chimney, with the exhaust gases at a temperature of about 150 ° C. Condensation technology uses the high temperature of the exhaust gases and, by cooling them, generates extra heat.
Condensation technology is not new, but according to the new European Ecodesign Directive, the minimum requirements for energy efficiency and pollutant emissions of oil and gas boilers are such, that conventional boilers can’t cover.
Therefore, from 26 September 2015, conventional boilers were out of production, import and sale within the European Union. They are replaced by boilers equipped with exhaust gas condensation technology, which fully meet the minimum requirements of the new legislation.
How Do Condensing Boilers Work?
The basic operation principle of the condensing boilers is that the exhaust gases are not directed straight to the chimney but pass through a heat exchanger. In the exchanger, the hot exhaust gases exchange energy with the water that returns from the radiators and cool down before going to the chimney. Liquidations of the exhaust gases are usually collected in a stainless bowl and led to drainage, without the boiler’s corrosion.
