ANDRIANOS tips for energy saving with the right choice and use of thermostats
The room thermostat is one of the most important factors in Energy Saving in Heating systems.
- It is recommended to set it to 22οC, aswe achieve Energy Savings of about 7%, for every 1οC that we reduce the temperature.
- It is recommended to replace the old thermostat with a new one, which has an algorithm (PID / PWM), so that it understands at all times not only what the room temperature is (like a conventional ON / OFF thermostat), but also how fast it changes (goes up or goes down), thus keeping the room temperature constant.
- It is also recommended to install thermostats or thermostatic radiator valves in each separate room, to achieve autonomy and the ideal temperature in each room, and not just one thermostat per apartment.

Wired or Wireless Communication - Thermostats with battery or wired with 230V
Room Thermostats, depending on how they are connected to the heat generating system (eg Boiler or Heat Pump), are distinguished in wireless and wired.
The wireless thermostats are communicating with the boiler via a wireless receiver that is installed in the boiler room and communicates wirelessly with the room thermostat installed in the building. In contrast, wired thermostats communicate via cable with the heat source.
Another distinction is the power supply of the thermostat, ie if it takes batteries or 230V power supply.

Room Thermostat Scheduling
An interesting function of the thermostats is the possibility of scheduling. Thermostats that have a time schedule can set a different room temperature according to a time schedule entered by the user.

Thermostats Self-learning (PID, PWM, ITLC, TPI)
The PID or PWM function of the most modern thermostats concerns the ability of the thermostat to perceive at any time not only the temperature of the room (such as a conventional ON / OFF thermostat), but also how quickly it changes (goes up or down) , thus maintaining the room temperature, constant.

Operation: PID thermostats are equipped with a microprocessor which:
i. It compares the desired temperature and the current one at regular intervals

Result: Through the above analysis, the thermostat selects the operation of the heating system in such a way that it reaches and maintains the desired temperature with the fewest possible fluctuations.
PiD control thermostats can achieve excellent comfort conditions since the temperature is constant but also economical because the space does not heat up more than you need.

PiD control thermostat installation is indicated in underfloor heating installations (where the inertia of the heating system is high) and drastically improves the time delay of the temperature relative to the value set in the thermostat.

Thermostats OPENTHERM
OpenTherm (OT) is a standard communications protocol used in central heating systems for the communication between a central heating boiler and room thermostats, with the connection made from point to point or from multiple points to one point. As a standard, OpenTherm is independent of any single manufacturer. However, OpenTherm controllers and boilers do not in fact always work properly together. The OpenTherm standard comprises a number of optional features and some devices may include manufacturer-specific features. The presence or absence of such features may impair compatibility with other OpenTherm devices. We recommend if you are replacing your boiler, you research OpenTherm boilers well before purchase.
The communication is two-way between transmitter and receiver and it is possible to transfer various information such as machine status report, error reports and others, but the most common command is to control the operating temperature of the heat source.
The control is constantly controlled by the thermostat to change the temperature of the heat source accordingly, ensuring greater energy efficiency and savings.
In addition, the control via OpenTherm allows smoother control of its operation by adjusting the combustion and not just on - off, allowing the burner to operate close to the condensing temperature for longer, ensuring more economical operation.
The physical implementation of OpenTherm is done by 2 simple cables allowing the use of existing infrastructure. The only limitation is the maximum wiring length which is 50m and for a maximum resistance of 5 ohm per cable. The OT supports intelligent power supply and can support power of 35 mW (low), 136 mW (mid) or 255 mW (high) depending on the loads required to power such as backlight displays or motors. OT supports two standards, Opentherm Plus (OT +) and Opentherm lite (OT-), and deals with the signal configuration and commands supported by each.

Watts Vision Smart Home System
